A large European Poker tournament is currently being planned, and it may well become the biggest Poker tournament to ever take place within Europe. The tournament organisers Poker Ireland are teaming up with Mermaid Poker to organise the International Poker Open to take place in October. The poker player known as ‘5902838181’ (catchy isn’t it) has won the PokerStars Sunday million, picking up a staggering $196,244 for his efforts. The Sunday million is a very popular online multi-table tournament that attracts numerous online players from across the globe with its high monetary prizes on offer. Carlos Mortensen managed to beat out his final table opponents and win the 2007 WPT Championship at approximately 3:00 a.m. EST on Saturday morning. The win makes Mortensen the first player to win $5 Million + in tournaments at the Bellagio and his track record is extremely impressive with two WPT wins and a WSOP bracelet. After a long day of play we are finally down to our last 6 remaining contenders in the 2007 WPT Championship at the Bellagio poker room in Las Vegas. WPT representatives released the official final table names and chip counts at around 3:00 a.m. this morning after the last player (Thomas Wahlroos) was eliminated in the dreaded 7th place, putting him one spot out of the money. Final table action begins today at 5:00 p.m. PST with the top 6 all fighting for the coveted title and the estimated $3.97 Million first place prize. This is also a very important tournament in terms of respect and ability, as it is considered to be one of the toughest field of players if not the toughest in the entire season. Day 3 of the 2007 WPT Championship has rapped up and we have a new chip leader, poker player Raymond Davis. Davis managed to work his stack up to 1,710,000 chips on day 3 elimiating a handful of pros including Barny Boatman, Chip Reese and Eric Kesselman. Day 2 of the WPT Championship at the Bellagio has just finished this past hour with British poker sensation Roland De Wolfe battling through the ranks to gain the unoffical chip lead. De Wolfe sprung to the top of the pack on a missed flush draw by J.C Alvarado leaving Roland’s top two pair the winning hand, and the hand that would take him over the 500k mark in chips. De wolfe ended the day with 505,000 in chips and is poised to command his strong lead going into day 3. With 210 players remaining and a $3.97 Million payout for first place, the rest of the tournament will no doubt be packed with all-ins and skillful bluffs. The hopeful field of 304 players included the likes of Phil Ivey, Jamie Gold, Phil Hellmuth, John Juanda and many others. WPT Enterprises announced yesterday the addition of its 14th official casino member in its growing international roster. The deal involves an expansion agreement with Spanish based Grupo Peralada, the largest casino operator in Spain and owners of the Casino De Barcelona located in Barcelona’s harbour district. Yesterday, Anna Wroblewski became the first woman ever to win a preliminary event at the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Open winning the $3,000 Buy-in No-Limit event. The tournament featured a field of 324 players and a respectable prize pool of $943,000, Anna’s share representing approx. $337,395. This is a great accomplishment for Anna and women poker players across the nation. Anna, who had just started a $10/hour job to help pay the bills after going on a horrible streak at the tables, seemed determined and relived as she entered the final table of play.
